HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Harvey
4Nathaniel, who passed away on April 25, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harvey Nathaniel was born in Webb, Mississippi to
6Verlee and Johnny Nathaniel on December 16, 1942; he was
7baptized at Metropolitan Baptist Church in 1953; he obtained
8his education in Chicago at Douglas Elementary School, John
9Marshall High School, and Roosevelt University; in 1963, he
10enlisted in the United States Army, where he achieved the rank
11of Sergeant and received an Honorable Discharge; he married
12Lorraine Alston in June of 1972; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Harvey Nathaniel worked for Zenith as a general
14manager until 1980; he began a successful career with the City
15of Chicago beginning in 1980; he was Deputy Assessor for Cook
16County, Precinct Captain for the 9th ward, Secretary of the
17Democratic organization for the 9th ward, Foreman for Streets
18and Sanitation, Assistant Ward Superintendent for the 9th ward,
19President of the Democratic Party for the 28th Ward, and Ward
20Superintendent of the 28th Ward; he retired after 32 years of
21service to the City of Chicago; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Harvey Nathaniel was active in his community and

1with veterans; he was Treasurer of New Voice Community
2Prevention Service and President of Guardians of the People;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Harvey Nathaniel enjoyed fishing, telling
5stories, and making up contests such as the Best Christmas
6Lights Contest; his greatest joys were his grandkids, Jordan
7and Justin; he loved to watch them play sports and take them to
8different restaurants and play with them their favorite game,
9Hide and Seek; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Harvey Nathaniel was preceded in death by his
11mother, Verlee (Willie) Jackson; his father, Johnny Nathaniel;
12and his brothers, Johnny, Charles, Walter, and Leon; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Harvey Nathaniel is survived by his daughter,
14Nerlean Iva (Phillip) Nathaniel; his granddaughter, Jordan;
15his grandson, Justin; his sisters, Nerlean (Elbert), Darlean,
16Earlean (Sam), Eileen, Margaree, and Verlee (Leaonard); his
17brothers, Willie and Ernest; and a host of nieces, nephews,
18cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21mourn the passing of Harvey Nathaniel, and extend our sincere
22condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of Harvey Nathaniel as an expression of
