HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Betty A. Taylor of Canton, who passed away on April 30, 2016 at her home surrounded by family; and

WHEREAS, Betty Taylor was born on August 24, 1932 in Canton to Clifton and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick; she married Dr. Willison I. Taylor in 1964; and

WHEREAS, A lifelong Cantonian, Betty Taylor graduated from Canton High School, the Graham Hospital School of Nursing, and Western Illinois University; she worked as a nurse at Glenn-McGuire Clinic and Graham Hospital for 11 years and as a health teacher at Canton High School for 18 years; and

WHEREAS, Betty Taylor was heavily involved in the community; she served on the Spoon River College Board of Trustees for 20 years; she was an active member of her PEO, the Altruistic Club, the Friendship Festival Committee, the Community Concert Association, the Federated Business and Professional Women's Club, the Fulton/McDonough Mental Health Association Board, and the Canton Community Resources Committee; and

WHEREAS, Betty Taylor volunteered for many groups, including the YMCA, the Canton Lions Club Eye Clinic, the American Cancer Association, and the Illinois Heart Association; she was honored with the Canton YWCA Woman of Distinction Award in 2000; and

WHEREAS, Betty Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, Willison; her siblings, Eldon Kirkpatrick and Marilyn Mosher; and her stepson, Dr. Daniel Taylor; and

WHEREAS, Betty Taylor is survived by her daughter, Karen (John) Disharoon; her stepchildren, Nancy Randol and Gary (Cathy) Taylor; her grandchildren, Mary Mansker, Sue Carpentier, Ann Randol, Kelly Russell, Kristen Deweese, Jack Disharoon, and Taylor Disharoon; her 14 great-grandchildren; and her great great-grandchild; and

WHEREAS, Betty Taylor was a compassionate, loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend and was tireless in her zeal to help others; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Betty A. Taylor and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Betty Taylor as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
