| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, In 2016, CITGO will host the CITGO 90th | ||||||
| 3 | Anniversary Celebration of its Lemont refinery; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, One of the most iconic retail brands in the United | ||||||
| 5 | States, CITGO has built its reputation on providing quality | ||||||
| 6 | products and dependable services for people on the go; over the | ||||||
| 7 | years, the company has helped keep the economy strong, not only | ||||||
| 8 | with products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, | ||||||
| 9 | lubricants, refined waxes, petrochemicals, and asphalt, but | ||||||
| 10 | also through the hardworking people who refine, market, and | ||||||
| 11 | transport them; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, CITGO began as Lemont Refinery Services in 1925; | ||||||
| 13 | the company employs over 800 employees and contractors with an | ||||||
| 14 | average annual economic impact on Will County of $270 million; | ||||||
| 15 | and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Caring about the communities where the people of | ||||||
| 17 | CITGO live and work is the foundation of the company's efforts | ||||||
| 18 | to serve as a good corporate neighbor, from environmental | ||||||
| 19 | programs such as the Lemont Heritage Quarries Recreation Area | ||||||
| 20 | Restoration Project, a $250,000 investment which has drawn | ||||||
| 21 | hundreds of volunteers to restore this historic natural habitat | ||||||
| 22 | and promote environmental stewardship so that it is accessible | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | to residents and students, to social programs like the Lemont | ||||||
| 2 | Community Center, with total contributions of $500,000 and | ||||||
| 3 | impacting approximately 100,000 area residents with social | ||||||
| 4 | services programs such as a food pantry and meals for senior | ||||||
| 5 | citizens; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The TeamCITGO volunteer organization, comprised | ||||||
| 7 | of employees and their families, donate 2,000 hours annually to | ||||||
| 8 | charitable organizations and have raised over $1 million that | ||||||
| 9 | together have impacted 46 local charities and 113 programs for | ||||||
| 10 | the United Way of Will County; since 2008, CITGO has raised | ||||||
| 11 | over $4 million to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association, | ||||||
| 12 | an organization that is seeking a cure for neuromuscular | ||||||
| 13 | degeneration in young people and adults; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 15 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 16 | recognize CITGO for its many significant contributions to the | ||||||
| 17 | citizens of Illinois and urges the citizens of our State to | ||||||
| 18 | join us in congratulating CITGO on the 90th anniversary of its | ||||||
| 19 | Lemont refinery; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to CITGO as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
