| 2 | | WHEREAS, On April 11, 2016, the Gallatin County High School |
| 3 | | Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) Team competed |
| 4 | | in and won the State championship at the University of Illinois |
| 5 | | in Urbana-Champaign; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The Academic Challenge is an annual competition in |
| 7 | | which schools test at the regional, sectional, and State |
| 8 | | levels, with teams of 14 members; test material is drawn from |
| 9 | | senior-level high school and freshman-level college curricula; |
| 10 | | the competition is composed of seven subjects, Biology, |
| 11 | | Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering Graphics, English, |
| 12 | | Mathematics, and Physics, with each student testing in two |
| 13 | | subjects; students have 40 minutes to complete the |
| 14 | | multiple-choice tests, which vary in length from 30 to 100 |
| 15 | | questions; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Twenty-eight teams and 61 individuals competed at |
| 17 | | the State championship, representing 44 high schools across |
| 18 | | Illinois; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, This occasion marks the first time in the history |
| 20 | | of Gallatin County High School that a team has won a State |
| 21 | | championship; Gallatin County has been represented at the State |
| 22 | | level 15 times since 1998, when the WYSE competition was |
|

|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Gallatin County WYSE Team received a perfect |
| 3 | | score at the Regional Competition, hosted by Southeastern |
| 4 | | Illinois College, and placed second at the Sectional |
| 5 | | Competition, hosted by Southern Illinois University |
| 6 | | Carbondale; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Individual medal winners from Gallatin County |
| 8 | | included Nathan Shults, fifth in Engineering Graphics, Kaleb |
| 9 | | Burklow, fifth in Chemistry and sixth in Mathematics, and Aaron |
| 10 | | Walters, fifth in Engineering Graphics; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The members of Gallatin County's varsity team are |
| 12 | | MaKalyn Smith, Kelsi May, Kaylee McGuire, Kaleb Burklow, Jacob |
| 13 | | Watson, Michaela Springer, Dylan Boggs, Nathan Shults, Dylan |
| 14 | | Garrison, Brody Watts, Bryon Wargel, Aaron Walters, Caitlin |
| 15 | | Lynch, and Lilly Galt; the team's coaches are Lindsay Adams and |
| 16 | | Billyjoe Menard; therefore, be it

| 19 | | congratulate the members of the Gallatin County High School |
| 20 | | WYSE Team on the occasion of their 2016 successful season and |
