| 2 | | WHEREAS, Each year sudden cardiac arrest claims the lives |
| 3 | | of approximately 383,000 Americans outside of the hospital; it |
| 4 | | strikes people of all levels of fitness, and it usually strikes |
| 5 | | without warning; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, In many cases, sudden cardiac arrest is caused by |
| 7 | | an abnormal heart rhythm called ventricular fibrillation that |
| 8 | | prevents the heart from pumping blood; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, The treatment for ventricular fibrillation is |
| 10 | | defibrillation, which is the delivery of an electric shock to |
| 11 | | the heart that stops ventricular fibrillation and allows a |
| 12 | | normal heart rhythm to resume; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Providing defibrillation on-site with an |
| 14 | | Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can significantly |
| 15 | | increase survival rates for ventricular fibrillation cardiac |
| 16 | | arrest; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, The American Heart Association is a national |
| 18 | | voluntary health agency whose mission is to reduce disability |
| 19 | | and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke, and it is |
| 20 | | dedicated to helping businesses and communities establish |
| 21 | | on-site AED programs; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The American Heart Association and its volunteers |
| 2 | | have assisted in the establishment of AED programs at the |
| 3 | | Illinois House of Representatives and the Illinois Senate by |
| 4 | | providing life-saving CPR and AED training for General Assembly |
| 5 | | employees in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The American Heart Association volunteer |
| 7 | | instructors and staff for the 2016 General Assembly employee |
| 8 | | training session were J R Dietl, Julie Dietl, Cindy Robinson, |
| 9 | | Terry Bowman, Shawna Robinson, Randy Allard, Mark Goerger, |
| 10 | | Dustin Castle, John Cappello, Tim Clover, and Ron Musenbrock; |
| 11 | | therefore, be it
|
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 13 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 14 | | commend the American Heart Association for its efforts to save |
| 15 | | lives through education and training, and we thank the American |
| 16 | | Heart Association and its volunteers for providing CPR and AED |
| 17 | | training for General Assembly employees; and be it further
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 19 | | presented to the Greater Midwest Affiliate of the American |
| 20 | | Heart Association as an expression of our gratitude for its |
| 21 | | role in providing heart-health education and life-saving |
| 22 | | training.
