HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Each year sudden cardiac arrest claims the lives
3of approximately 383,000 Americans outside of the hospital; it
4strikes people of all levels of fitness, and it usually strikes
5without warning; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In many cases, sudden cardiac arrest is caused by
7an abnormal heart rhythm called ventricular fibrillation that
8prevents the heart from pumping blood; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The treatment for ventricular fibrillation is
10defibrillation, which is the delivery of an electric shock to
11the heart that stops ventricular fibrillation and allows a
12normal heart rhythm to resume; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Providing defibrillation on-site with an
14Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can significantly
15increase survival rates for ventricular fibrillation cardiac
16arrest; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The American Heart Association is a national
18voluntary health agency whose mission is to reduce disability
19and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke, and it is
20dedicated to helping businesses and communities establish
21on-site AED programs; and

1    WHEREAS, The American Heart Association and its volunteers
2have assisted in the establishment of AED programs at the
3Illinois House of Representatives and the Illinois Senate by
4providing life-saving CPR and AED training for General Assembly
5employees in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The American Heart Association volunteer
7instructors and staff for the 2016 General Assembly employee
8training session were J R Dietl, Julie Dietl, Cindy Robinson,
9Terry Bowman, Shawna Robinson, Randy Allard, Mark Goerger,
10Dustin Castle, John Cappello, Tim Clover, and Ron Musenbrock;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14commend the American Heart Association for its efforts to save
15lives through education and training, and we thank the American
16Heart Association and its volunteers for providing CPR and AED
17training for General Assembly employees; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the Greater Midwest Affiliate of the American
20Heart Association as an expression of our gratitude for its
21role in providing heart-health education and life-saving
22training.
