HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate  the staff, 
4administration, and students of W.S. Beaupre Elementary School 
5in Aurora on the occasion of the school's 100th anniversary in 
62016; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The oldest public school district in Illinois, 
8East Aurora School District 131, was first recognized by the 
9State in 1851, though teachers had been giving classes at 
10subscription-based and charter schoolhouses in the area since 
111834; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Wealthy banker and influential community member, 
13W.S. Beaupre, served on the East Aurora School District Board 
14from 1882 to 1927; his daughter was a school teacher who, in 
15light of the lack of appropriate books, wrote original short 
16stories for young children; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, In 1915, W.S. Beaupre Elementary School was built 
18in Aurora; the school was opened for its inaugural year in 
191916; in the mid-1990s, the school was recognized for being a 
20State leader in literacy scores; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, W.S. Beaupre Elementary School is currently under

1the leadership of Principal Caridad Garcia, who has served in 
2that capacity since 2013; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, The staff, administration, and students of W.S. 
4Beaupre Elementary School serve as models of hard work, 
5integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
6Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
8NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
9congratulate the staff, administration, and students of W.S. 
10Beaupre Elementary School in Aurora on the occasion of the 
11school's 100th anniversary and wish them continued success and 
12happiness in the future; and be it further
  
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
14presented to W.S. Beaupre Elementary School as a symbol of our 
15esteem and respect.
