| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, Jeffery Komada was a dedicated math teacher at | ||||||
| 3 | William Howard Taft High School in Chicago for 30 years; he | ||||||
| 4 | also served as the school's Director of Technology; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Jeffery Komada was a loving husband to his wife | ||||||
| 6 | Cathy and a doting and loving father to his daughters | ||||||
| 7 | Jacqueline and Vanessa; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, On a rainy Saturday, April 30, 2016, as Jeffery | ||||||
| 9 | Komada was driving his Honda CRV on Interstate 94 near Touhy | ||||||
| 10 | Avenue, he struck a Ford Windstar minivan that was stalled in | ||||||
| 11 | traffic on the rain-slicked highway; a Volkswagen driven by a | ||||||
| 12 | 38 year-old woman who had her 4 year-old daughter in the car | ||||||
| 13 | with her then hit the minivan; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, After the accident, Jeffery Komada, in the finest | ||||||
| 15 | traditions of a Good Samaritan, assisted the woman and her | ||||||
| 16 | daughter who were in the Volkswagen by moving them into his CRV | ||||||
| 17 | for safety; a semitrailer truck then struck all three vehicles; | ||||||
| 18 | and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Jeffery Komada was standing outside his vehicle | ||||||
| 20 | when the semitrailer truck hit the cars and died from injuries | ||||||
| 21 | suffered from the impact; and | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, Mark Grishaber, the principal of Taft High School, | ||||||
| 2 | called Jeffery Komada's death a tremendous loss for the school | ||||||
| 3 | and his students; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Richard Winge, president of the Taft High School | ||||||
| 5 | Foundation, announced that Jeffery Komada would be inducted | ||||||
| 6 | into the William Howard Taft Hall of Fame as part of the 2016 | ||||||
| 7 | class of inductees and said that the induction was a | ||||||
| 8 | well-deserved honor; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, It is fitting to recognize the selfless and | ||||||
| 10 | generous service that Jeffery Komada gave to his students, to | ||||||
| 11 | his school, and to those in need on that tragic day; therefore, | ||||||
| 12 | be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 14 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 15 | mourn the passing of Jeffery Komada and extend our most sincere | ||||||
| 16 | condolences to his wife and children and to his entire family | ||||||
| 17 | on their loss; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the family of Jeffery Komada as an expression of | ||||||
| 20 | our deepest sympathy.
