HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize examples of citizenship by young people; and

WHEREAS, On May 2, 2016, Christian Harris, age 10, was working on schoolwork in front of his family home's picture window; and

WHEREAS, Christian Harris witnessed his neighbor across the street fall into the traffic lane on his street; and

WHEREAS, Christian Harris's neighbor, Duncan G. Leitch, the nearly 93-year-old father of Rep. David R. Leitch, broke his hip in the fall; and

WHEREAS, Christian Harris summoned his mother, Carrie, who called for an ambulance; they rushed into the street with a blanket and pillow to comfort Mr. Leitch and secured vehicles in front and back to protect him from on-coming traffic; and

WHEREAS, The Harris family, including Christian, his mother, Carrie, his father, Anthony, and four-year-old brother, Mark, went to the hospital that day to express their concern; and

WHEREAS, Word spread quickly of Christian Harris' fast action; the Indianola, Iowa City Council presented Christian Harris with its Citizenship Award; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Leitch, his brother, Brian, and sister, Carol Fries, are grateful for their father's rescue and anticipated recovery; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Christian Harris for his fast thinking in response to Duncan Leitch's fall and we wish him every success in his future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Christian Harris as an expression of our esteem and respect.
