| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Steve Scholten on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of his retirement as Executive Director of the | ||||||
| 5 | Arlington Heights Park District; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Director Scholten has been the Executive Director | ||||||
| 7 | of the Arlington Heights Park District since 2008; he has | ||||||
| 8 | served as Executive Director of a park facility for over 32 | ||||||
| 9 | years and has dedicated his 40-year career to the field of | ||||||
| 10 | parks and recreation; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, During Director Scholten's tenure, the Arlington | ||||||
| 12 | Heights Park District has been assigned the high Aaa credit | ||||||
| 13 | rating from Moody's Investors Services since 2009; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Director Scholten guided significant improvements | ||||||
| 15 | at Frontier Park in 2014 using a $400,000 grant from the | ||||||
| 16 | Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and a major | ||||||
| 17 | overhaul of the Camelot Park Community Center using another | ||||||
| 18 | grant from IDNR; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, In 2015, Director Scholten began the first major | ||||||
| 20 | renovation of the Arlington Lakes Golf Course since its opening | ||||||
| 21 | to the public many years ago, a renovation that will benefit | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | both golfers and the park district when the course re-opens in | ||||||
| 2 | July of 2016; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Director Scholten was instrumental in | ||||||
| 4 | establishing an inter-governmental agreement with the Mount | ||||||
| 5 | Prospect Park District and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation | ||||||
| 6 | District to open the area's first dog park at Melas Park in | ||||||
| 7 | 2014; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Director Scholten has earned many awards during | ||||||
| 9 | his career; The Illinois Parks and Recreation Association | ||||||
| 10 | awarded him their Profesional Award in 2003, and the Robert | ||||||
| 11 | Artz Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, In addition to his work with the Park District, | ||||||
| 13 | Director Scholten has always found time to fill leadership | ||||||
| 14 | positions with the local Chambers of Commerce, special | ||||||
| 15 | recreation associations, park foundations, the Illinois Park | ||||||
| 16 | and Recreation Association, and the National Recreation and | ||||||
| 17 | Park Association; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Director Scholten has a special love for the game | ||||||
| 19 | of basketball and officiated at the Illinois High School | ||||||
| 20 | Association State Championship game in 2009; he was inducted | ||||||
| 21 | into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame | ||||||
| 22 | as an official in 2012; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Director Scholten's retirement will be official | ||||||
| 2 | on July 1, 2016; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 4 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 5 | congratulate Steve Scholten on his retirement as Executive | ||||||
| 6 | Director of the Arlington Heights Park District, thank him for | ||||||
| 7 | his years of service to the park and recreation community, and | ||||||
| 8 | wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it | ||||||
| 9 | further

| 10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 11 | presented to Director Scholten as an expression of our esteem | ||||||
| 12 | and respect.
