| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, It is fitting that the members of the Illinois | ||||||
| 3 | House of Representatives should recognize the Wm. Wrigley Jr. | ||||||
| 4 | Company, a subsidiary of Mars, Incorporated, whose presence in | ||||||
| 5 | the State has enabled them to contribute to the vitality of | ||||||
| 6 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, In 2016, the Wrigley factory in Yorkville added | ||||||
| 8 | the production of Skittles® to its existing range of beloved | ||||||
| 9 | products, including Doublemint® gum, Spearmint® gum, Juicy | ||||||
| 10 | Fruit® gum, Freedent® gum, Hubba Bubba® gum, Big Red® gum, Life | ||||||
| 11 | Savers® sugar-free mints, Altoids® smalls, Eclipse® mints, and | ||||||
| 12 | Excel® mints; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, The Wrigley Company has been an economic and | ||||||
| 14 | cultural staple of Illinois and the City of Chicago for the | ||||||
| 15 | past 125 years; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The Wrigley Company has invested in the Yorkville | ||||||
| 17 | community for more than 20 years by employing 400 Associates | ||||||
| 18 | and now adding 75 jobs to staff its expanded production | ||||||
| 19 | capabilities; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Mars, Incorporated is committed to helping the | ||||||
| 21 | communities we work and live in to thrive, with Yorkville-based | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Associates giving back through many activities, including the | ||||||
| 2 | Relay for Life, highway clean-up programs, and other | ||||||
| 3 | philanthropic efforts; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, In 2015, Skittles® became the number one | ||||||
| 5 | non-chocolate confection in the United States, holding the | ||||||
| 6 | position for more than a year; the Yorkville facility expansion | ||||||
| 7 | will accommodate continued growth; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Skittles® first launched in the United States in | ||||||
| 9 | 1974, and has been delighting consumers with its five fruity | ||||||
| 10 | flavors and call to "Taste the Rainbow" ever since; therefore, | ||||||
| 11 | be it

| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 13 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 14 | designate June 14, 2016 as "Wm. Wrigley, Jr. Company Day" in | ||||||
| 15 | the State of Illinois in recognition of the decades of economic | ||||||
| 16 | and civic contributions that the company has given to this | ||||||
| 17 | State and the company's bright future ahead; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company as a symbol of esteem | ||||||
| 20 | and respect.
