| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Wesley |
| 4 | | Nelson, Jr., who passed away on June 8, 2016; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Wesley Nelson, Jr. was born on August 9, 1941 in |
| 6 | | Sardis, Mississippi; his parents were Wesley Nelson, Sr. and |
| 7 | | Cora Alice Nelson; he married Patricia Jones on March 14, 1970; |
| 8 | | and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Wesley Nelson, Jr. was educated in St. Louis |
| 10 | | public schools; he served in the United States Air Force from |
| 11 | | 1962 to 1966 during the Vietnam War; after being honorably |
| 12 | | discharged at the end of his four-year enlistment, he returned |
| 13 | | home to St. Louis, Missouri and was employed at McDonnell |
| 14 | | Douglas for several years; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, In 1973, Wesley Nelson, Jr. moved to Chicago, |
| 16 | | where he attended engineering training school and completed his |
| 17 | | certification as a Licensed Stationary Engineer for the City of |
| 18 | | Chicago; he was employed by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation |
| 19 | | District for 18 years until his retirement in 2000; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, After retiring, Wesley Nelson, Jr. settled in |
| 21 | | Edwardsville to be closer to his St. Louis family; he also |
|

| 1 | | enjoyed many periods of snow-birding in Ft. Myers, Florida |
| 2 | | while spending time with his close friend, Bob Knes and his |
| 3 | | family; he also enjoyed hanging out at the American Legion |
| 4 | | Hall, cruise ships, fishing, casino gambling, listening to the |
| 5 | | blues, watching game shows and old movies, and spending time |
| 6 | | with his family; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Wesley Nelson, Jr. was preceded in death by his |
| 8 | | parents; his sister, Cora Lee Slack; and his half-sister, |
| 9 | | Cyndia Doyle; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Wesley Nelson, Jr. is survived by his daughters, |
| 11 | | Michelle Mitchell and Shivonne (Illinois State Representative |
| 12 | | Elgie) Sims; his son, Shawn (Marie) Nelson; his sisters, |
| 13 | | Shirlene Niblett and Izella Doyle (Robert Dodd); his |
| 14 | | grandchildren, Brannon (Jazmine) Joiner, Kristena Houston, |
| 15 | | Sydney and Spencer Nelson, and Kennedy and MacKenzie Sims; his |
| 16 | | uncle, Jesse Billington; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and |
| 17 | | friends; therefore, be it
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 19 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 20 | | we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of |
| 21 | | Wesley Nelson, Jr.; and be it further
