HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of  Jacob 
4Manning Schmitz, who passed away on June 13, 2016; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz was born on December 17, 1998; his 
6parents were Leo Schmitz and Ellyn Weiss Schmitz; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz was a junior at Brother Rice High 
8School; he was a proud Edmund Rice Scholar and earned superior 
9honors with a GPA of over 4.7 and an ACT score of 32 on his 
10first attempt; during his sophomore year, he participated in 
11the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation's "Get Behind the Vest 
12Drive" at Brother Rice, where students raised money to buy 
13bullet-resistant vests for Chicago police officers; he planned 
14to study engineering and medicine at a top university after 
15graduation; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz served as student council secretary 
17for the 2015-2016 school year and was the only junior elected 
18to the executive board; in April of 2016, he was proud to be 
19elected student council president for 2016-2017; he was a 
20member of the National Honor Society and volunteered as a 
21counselor at Blessed Edmund Rice Camp; he was also selected for 
22and attended several leadership conferences throughout the

1United States; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz loved snow skiing, jet-skiing, and 
3watersports and earned his boating license at the age of 12; he 
4also loved the beaches in Michigan, traveling, and attending 
5Greenwoods Camp in Michigan each summer; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz was preceded in death by his 
7grandmother, Patricia; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz was the beloved son of Leo Schmitz 
9and Ellyn Weiss Schmitz; the best friend and grandson of Leo 
10"Gerard" Schmitz; the cherished grandson of Ben (Maureen) Weiss 
11and Suzanne (Dr. John) Weiss; and the adored nephew and cousin 
12of many; therefore, be it
  
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
15we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of 
16Jacob Manning Schmitz; and be it further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to the family of Jacob Schmitz as an expression of 
19our sympathy.
