| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former |
| 4 | | Illinois State Representative Eugene "Gene" Moore; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Eugene Moore began his political career in 1989, |
| 6 | | when he was elected to serve as trustee for Proviso Township; |
| 7 | | he later went on to become the first African-American elected |
| 8 | | to represent the 7th District in the Illinois House of |
| 9 | | Representatives, where he served for three terms and was |
| 10 | | elected to a fourth term; in 1999, he was elected to serve as |
| 11 | | Cook County Recorder of Deeds, where he served until 2012; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Following his service as Cook County Recorder of |
| 13 | | Deeds, Eugene Moore remained in political circles, where he |
| 14 | | talked passionately about community affairs, backed local |
| 15 | | candidates, and mentored rising political figures like Maywood |
| 16 | | Trustee Isiah Brandon; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Eugene Moore was a member of the Second Baptist |
| 18 | | Church in Maywood; he was a football and basketball coach and |
| 19 | | mentor to youths in Proviso Township; he also served on |
| 20 | | numerous boards, including those of the Boys and Girls Club of |
| 21 | | West Cook County, the Proviso-Leyden Council on Community |
| 22 | | Action, John C. Vaughns Scholarship Fund, Inc., and the |
