HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize and honor the Metropolis Hope
4Light Project Committee, the Hope Light Foundation, and the
5City of Metropolis for their combined efforts to communicate
6cancer awareness through a unique venue, The Metropolis
7Lighthouse; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Cancer claims the lives of more than 24,000
9Illinois residents and touches the lives of hundreds of
10thousands of Illinois residents every year; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Due to the combined efforts of The Metropolis Hope
12Light Project Committee, The Hope Light Foundation, and the
13City of Metropolis, a 30-foot tall working lighthouse was
14designed and built on the banks of the Ohio River in the
15vicinity of the historical Fort Massac State Park in the City
16of Metropolis and dedicated to the fight against all cancers;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, The Metropolis Lighthouse is used to navigate
19people to life-saving cancer awareness information, much like a
20real lighthouse navigates ships into safe harbors; and
 
21    WHEREAS, The Metropolis Lighthouse stands as a symbol of

1hope to all those whose lives have been or will be impacted by
2cancer; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The members of this body deeply appreciate the
4efforts of the Metropolis Hope Light Project Committee, The
5Hope Light Foundation, and the City of Metropolis to erect and
6maintain this lighthouse as the world's first and only
7lighthouse solely dedicated to the fight against cancer;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11recognize The Metropolis Lighthouse as a means of communicating
12cancer awareness and promoting early cancer detection,
13diagnosis, and treatment to save lives and honor the Metropolis
14Hope Light Project Committee, the Hope Light Foundation, and
15the City of Metropolis for their work in this regard; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
18presented to the Metropolis Hope Light Project Committee, The
19Hope Light Foundation, and the City of Metropolis as an
20expression of our deepest appreciation and honor for their
21efforts to provide a beacon of hope to the victims of cancer
22and their families, friends, and loved ones.
