HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize the 125th anniversary of the 
4founding of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, St. Joseph was founded on May 12, 1891 by 
6Slovenian immigrants who came to the area to work in the nearby 
7steel mills and settled along Chicago Street; the founding 
8members wished to celebrate Mass in their own language and 
9culture; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, St. Joseph meets in a historic downtown building; 
11constructed in 1905, it is the church's second home; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, The members of St. Joseph are active in their 
13community; the church is home to numerous organizations and 
14many of its members volunteer at the Shepherd's Table soup 
15kitchen and for clothing drives; and
  
 
  
16    WHEREAS, St. Joseph continues to grow; five years ago it 
17had a congregation of about 800 families, and as of 2016, that 
18number has grown to 860; therefore, be it
  
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
20NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1recognize the 125th anniversary of the founding of St. Joseph 
2Catholic Church and wish it many more successful years; and be 
3it further
  
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
5presented to St. Joseph as an expression of our esteem and 
6respect.
