HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Monsignor
4Virgil W. Mank, who passed away on June 28, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Msgr. Virgil Mank was born on December 25, 1939 in
6New Baden; his parents were William C. and Louise A. Mank; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Msgr. Virgil Mank was ordained a priest at the
8Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield by Bishop
9William A. O'Connor on May 22, 1965; he began his more than 50
10years of priestly service in the diocese of Springfield as
11Associate Pastor of St. Agnes Parish in Springfield from 1965
12to 1969; he served as Associate Pastor of St. Elizabeth Parish
13in Granite City from 1969 to 1970; from 1970 to 1975, he served
14as Chaplain of the Newman Community at Eastern Illinois
15University in Charleston; he served as Associate Pastor at SS.
16Peter & Paul Parish in Collinsville from 1975 to 1977 and as
17Co-Administrator at St. Mary Catholic Church in Taylorville and
18at St. Rita Catholic Church in Kincaid from 1977 to 1979; he
19also served as Pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption in Ste.
20Marie and St. Valentine at The Bend from 1979 to 1981, Pastor
21at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Glen Carbon from 1981 to
221988, Pastor at St. Ambrose Parish in Godfrey from 1988 to
232004, and Pastor of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy from

12004 to 2009; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Msgr. Virgil Mank was appointed Dean of the Alton
3Deanery in 1987, serving until his retirement in 2009; he
4served as Parochial Administrator of the Diocese from October
53, 1999 to December 19, 1999; on February 19, 2002, he received
6the honor as Chaplain to his Holiness (Monsignor) by Pope John
7Paul II; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Msgr. Virgil Mank was preceded in death by his
9parents; his brother, Louis A. Mank; and his brothers-in-law,
10William Wadlow and Richard Gier; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Msgr. Virgil Mank is survived by his sisters,
12Darlene Wadlow and Mary Gier; his brothers, Billy (Connie)
13Mank, James (Lynne) Mank, and Timothy (Michelle) Mank; and many
14nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of
19Monsignor Virgil W. Mank; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Msgr. Virgil Mank as an expression
