| 2 | | WHEREAS, The United States of America sent its sons and |
| 3 | | daughters to the Republic of Vietnam in Southeast Asia over 50 |
| 4 | | years ago; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has furnished assistance to |
| 6 | | veterans who have served in the Vietnam War, as well as other |
| 7 | | veterans who served in the Armed Forces but were not sent to |
| 8 | | the front lines; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, One of the most painful chapters in our nation's |
| 10 | | history is the Vietnam War, most particularly in how we treated |
| 11 | | our troops, who were often blamed for a war that they did not |
| 12 | | start; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, In times of relative harmony, we tend to take for |
| 14 | | granted the endowments earned and given by our Vietnam |
| 15 | | veterans; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, We aspire to enthusiastically take part in such |
| 17 | | examples of patriotism such as flying the flag, public-spirited |
| 18 | | get-togethers, and shaking the hands of Vietnam veterans and |
| 19 | | saying "Welcome Home"; therefore, be it
