2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Augustina Gonzalez | ||||||
4 | Brennan on the occasion of being the first Latina to be | ||||||
5 | promoted to the rank of Captain in the Chicago Police | ||||||
6 | Department; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan was born and raised in | ||||||
8 | Chicago and grew up in the Humboldt Park area; she attended | ||||||
9 | Chicago Public Schools and parochial high schools; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan joined the Chicago | ||||||
11 | Police Department in February of 1986 and was assigned to the | ||||||
12 | Shakespeare District in Humboldt Park; she worked as a Beat | ||||||
13 | Officer, Neighborhood Relations Officer, and Tactical Officer | ||||||
14 | in the 14th District, as well as a COS Dispatcher in multiple | ||||||
15 | police zones; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, In June of 1999, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan was | ||||||
17 | promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to the 23rd Police | ||||||
18 | District to work as a Beat Sergeant, Gang/Tactical Sergeant, | ||||||
19 | and Business Liaison Sergeant; in 2001, she was assigned to the | ||||||
20 | Bureau of Organized Crime, Narcotics Division, where she worked | ||||||
21 | numerous street level narcotic operations, including long term | ||||||
22 | Title III Federal and State wire intercept investigations with |

1 | federal law enforcement agencies, the State's Attorney's | ||||||
2 | Office, and the United States Attorney's Office; in 2005, she | ||||||
3 | was assigned to the Asset Forfeiture Unit, where she oversaw | ||||||
4 | daily operations involving money and forfeiture seizures and | ||||||
5 | proceedings with the State's Attorney's Asset Forfeiture Unit; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, In September of 2010, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan | ||||||
8 | was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to the | ||||||
9 | 20th Police District as the Watch and Field Operations | ||||||
10 | Lieutenant; in 2013, she was assigned to the Detective Division | ||||||
11 | as the Commanding Officer of the Juvenile Intervention and | ||||||
12 | Support Center, where she was responsible for overseeing the | ||||||
13 | processing of thousands of juvenile offenders covering seven | ||||||
14 | Police Districts; she also worked in the Missing Persons Unit | ||||||
15 | and, as the highest ranking officer in the Youth Division, | ||||||
16 | oversaw all operations of the Youth Administration Division and | ||||||
17 | the Special Investigations Unit, which is responsible for child | ||||||
18 | sex case investigations; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, In January of 2016, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan was | ||||||
20 | promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned to the Town Hall - | ||||||
21 | 19th Police District; after working as Acting Police Commander | ||||||
22 | for three months, she became the Captain in charge of | ||||||
23 | Administrative and Operational Concerns; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan is currently assigned | ||||||
2 | to the Bureau of Organizational Development, Inspections | ||||||
3 | Division as a Field Inspector; she is certified as a Peer | ||||||
4 | Support Team leader in handling major crisis situations | ||||||
5 | involving Chicago Police Department officers and family | ||||||
6 | members; she is also certified as a Crisis Intervention Team | ||||||
7 | officer, where she handles situations involving individuals | ||||||
8 | with mental health needs, and is a member and team leader of | ||||||
9 | the Employee Assistance Program - Peer Support Team Unit; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan obtained a Bachelor of | ||||||
11 | Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Calumet College and a | ||||||
12 | Master of Business Administration Degree from St. Xavier | ||||||
13 | University in 2003; she was selected to attend the Police | ||||||
14 | Executive Research Forum's Senior Management Institute for | ||||||
15 | Police in Boston, Massachusetts; she was also selected to | ||||||
16 | attend the Chicago Police Executive Development Program; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan is married with two | ||||||
18 | children and three grandchildren; her husband is also a Chicago | ||||||
19 | Police Department officer; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan serves as a model of | ||||||
21 | hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the | ||||||
22 | State of Illinois; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
2 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
3 | congratulate Augustina Gonzalez Brennan on the occasion of | ||||||
4 | being the first Latina to be promoted to the rank of Captain in | ||||||
5 | the Chicago Police Department and wish her continued success | ||||||
6 | and happiness in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to Augustina Gonzalez Brennan as a symbol of our | ||||||
9 | esteem and respect.
