HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Donald Gould, Jr. on the 
4occasion of his retirement as chief of the Prospect Heights 
5Fire Protection District; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Donald Gould, Jr. has served the Prospect Heights 
7Fire Protection District since beginning as a volunteer in 
81969; he was promoted to assistant chief in 1981, appointed 
9chief in 1988, and became the district's first full-time chief 
10in 2000; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Donald Gould, Jr. is the fourth fire chief in the 
12history of the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District; his 
13predecessors include his late father, Donald Gould, Sr.; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Donald Gould, Jr. has spent his career championing 
15firefighting education by graduating from the School of Fire 
16Protection at Oklahoma State University, becoming one of the 
17first certified chief officers in the State of Illinois, and 
18developing a firefighter certification training program; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Donald Gould, Jr. promoted safety and well-being 
20in the communities served by the district and worked to bring 
21paramedic services to Prospect Heights; and

1    WHEREAS, Donald Gould, Jr. secured public trust and 
2authority through a referendum to issue $1.1 million in bonds 
3to expand the fire station and modernize the fleet; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, During the 28 years of Donald Gould, Jr.'s 
5leadership, the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District has 
6expanded from 30 paid-on-call firefighters responding to 600 
7calls a year from a single station to 50-plus part-time and 
8full-time firefighters responding to about 2,000 calls a year 
9from two stations; therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
12congratulate Donald Gould, Jr. on the occasion of his 
13retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the 
14future; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to Donald Gould, Jr. as a symbol of our esteem and 
17respect.
