HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Elijah Ourth of Boy Scout Troop 24 in Riverside on the occasion of achieving the rank of Eagle Scout on July 27, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Elijah Ourth started Scouting as a Tiger Cub in first grade; he advanced through the ranks of Wolf, Bear, and Webelos, and earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouts; and

WHEREAS, Elijah Ourth advanced through the Boy Scout ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life, culminating in the rank of Eagle Scout, which only two percent of Scouts have attained over the history of Scouting; and

WHEREAS, Elijah Ourth participated in numerous camping trips, summer camps, service projects, and week-long high adventure outings by canoeing, whitewater rafting, backpacking, and kayaking, including several solo trips; and

WHEREAS, Elijah Ourth continued his outdoor interests as a student at Conserve School, a semester school in northern Wisconsin dedicated to environmental stewardship; he also continued his involvement in scouting as a foreign exchange student to Sweden, becoming active in a Swedish Scout Troop; and

WHEREAS, Elijah Ourth completed his Eagle Project by coordinating a drive to collect 850 stuffed animals to be given to children undergoing medical care at the Cicero Health Center; and

WHEREAS, Elijah Ourth is an active member of his community and his school; he serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Elijah Ourth on the occasion of achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and wish him many years of success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Elijah Ourth as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
