| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The United States and the State of Illinois should | ||||||
| 3 | strive to foster inclusion, opportunity, and equality for all | ||||||
| 4 | individuals regardless of race, gender, nationality, sexual | ||||||
| 5 | orientation, or religion; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, We are a nation built on an American dream, which | ||||||
| 7 | has flourished due to hope, unity, and the acceptance and | ||||||
| 8 | inclusion of immigrants in our society; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The greatest strength of our people and our | ||||||
| 10 | society is our diversity; out of many, we are one; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Stephen Bannon is a known white supremacist who | ||||||
| 12 | has fanned the flames of hatred and intolerance while | ||||||
| 13 | editor-in-chief at Breitbart News; as a top advisor, he has | ||||||
| 14 | brought the same hateful tactics to President-elect Donald | ||||||
| 15 | Trump's campaign; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The deplorable headlines published during Mr. | ||||||
| 17 | Bannon's tenure at Breitbart including: "Would you rather your | ||||||
| 18 | child had feminism or cancer", "Hoist it high and proud: The | ||||||
| 19 | Confederate flag proclaims a glorious heritage", "Gay rights | ||||||
| 20 | have made us dumber, it's time to get back in the closet", | ||||||
| 21 | "Bill Kristol: Republican spoiler, renegade Jew", reflect the | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | frightening world view of the white-nationalist group, known as | ||||||
| 2 | the "alt-right"; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, An individual heralded by the "alt-right" and | ||||||
| 4 | pushing a strong white-nationalistic, anti-Semitic, | ||||||
| 5 | Islamophobic, and misogynistic agenda, who has used racial | ||||||
| 6 | divisiveness for his own personal advancement has no place | ||||||
| 7 | working in American government, much less in a leadership role | ||||||
| 8 | within the White House; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Since the November 8, 2016 election, the Southern | ||||||
| 10 | Poverty Law Center and the American Council on American-Islamic | ||||||
| 11 | Relations have both documented an alarming surge in the number | ||||||
| 12 | of reported hate crimes against marginalized Americans; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Since the November 8, 2016 election, calls to the | ||||||
| 14 | suicide hotline in Illinois have increased by 200%, with | ||||||
| 15 | experts attributing the alarming increase in part to | ||||||
| 16 | marginalized communities fearing for their safety after the | ||||||
| 17 | results of the election; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 19 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 20 | stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters of | ||||||
| 21 | marginalized communities including women, people of color, | ||||||
| 22 | immigrants, the LGBTQ community, and the disabled by condemning | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | the appointment of Stephen Bannon as Chief Strategist to | ||||||
| 2 | President-elect Trump and demand President-elect Trump to | ||||||
| 3 | rescind the appointment and focus on uniting our country and | ||||||
| 4 | serving as Commander-in-Chief for all Americans; and be it | ||||||
| 5 | further | ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That we urge Governor Rauner to stand with | ||||||
| 7 | marginalized communities in Illinois and call for the rejection | ||||||
| 8 | of hate speech and the immediate dismissal of Mr. Bannon; and | ||||||
| 9 | be it further
| ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 11 | delivered to Governor Rauner and President-elect Trump.
