HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to honor the tenure of our esteemed colleague, State Representative and Assistant Majority Leader John Bradley, and thank him for his dedicated service to our State and Southern Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bradley was born and raised in Harrisburg, where he attended Harrisburg High School and earned an A.S., A.A. from Southeastern Illinois College; he received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin and his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bradley served his community as an attorney, and as a member of the Williamson County Airport Authority, the Southeastern Illinois College Alumni Association, REDCO, Marion Rotary International, the Royalton Lion's Club, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the National Rifle Association, and Ducks Unlimited; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bradley is a member of Christian Covenant Fellowship in Carterville; he and his wife, Michelle, have three children; over the years, his office staff has helped thousands of constituents access State services and navigate past government red tape; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bradley has been a strong advocate for Southern Illinois; he worked to pass laws to combat methamphetamine use in the region, create the Franklin County Juvenile Meth Treatment Program, and protect the rights of landowners; he championed the cause of the elderly and struggling residents in leading the fight against large utility rate increases and worked to ensure utility consumers across the State received more than one billion dollars in rebates; and

WHEREAS, Economic development and jobs have been a major priority for Representative Bradley; he was a leading voice in the expansion of Route 13 in Williamson County, new highway construction along Interstate 57, the creation of the Franklin Regional Economic Development Corporation, efforts to benefit the coal and fracking industries, and changes to the State workers' compensation system and unemployment insurance program to help protect employers and middle-class workers; and

WHEREAS, As Chairman of the House Revenue and Finance Committee, Representative Bradley led the fight against a plan by former Governor Rod Blagojevich to impose a massive tax increase on businesses; his committee worked to stop hundreds of bills that would increase spending or would allow new taxes to become law; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bradley is an example of dedication and tenacity to those who have served alongside him; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate and thank State Representative John Bradley for his years of dedicated service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Representative Bradley as an expression of our respect and esteem, and with our best wishes for his future success.
