| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to honor our
colleague, State | ||||||
| 4 | Representative Mike Smiddy, for his service as a member of the | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois General
Assembly; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Representative Smiddy is the proud and devoted | ||||||
| 7 | husband of Deborah and father of two sons,
Logan, and Ian; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Working alongside former United States | ||||||
| 9 | Congressman Lane Evans, Representative Smiddy became
instilled | ||||||
| 10 | with a passion for public service, and was inspired to continue | ||||||
| 11 | Congressman Evans'
legacy of speaking up for veterans and | ||||||
| 12 | defending the rights of middle-class families; following in
the | ||||||
| 13 | footsteps of Congressman Evans, Representative Smiddy entered | ||||||
| 14 | public service and was
elected to represent the 71st | ||||||
| 15 | Representative District in 2012; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Prior to taking office as a member of the General | ||||||
| 17 | Assembly, Representative
Smiddy worked to keep his community | ||||||
| 18 | safe and continued to speak up for the rights of working
| ||||||
| 19 | families as an employee of the Illinois Department of | ||||||
| 20 | Corrections and as a member of the American
Federation of | ||||||
| 21 | State, County, and Municipal Employees; and | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, Representative Smiddy spearheaded the effort to | ||||||
| 2 | expand insurance coverage for
preventative breast cancer | ||||||
| 3 | screenings for all women in Illinois, an issue especially | ||||||
| 4 | personal for
him following his wife's battle with breast | ||||||
| 5 | cancer; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, As the representative of a region deeply rooted in | ||||||
| 7 | manufacturing, agriculture, and
organized labor, | ||||||
| 8 | Representative Smiddy served as a champion for middle-class | ||||||
| 9 | families, fighting
to restore back-pay owed to workers, | ||||||
| 10 | speaking up strongly for fair wages, and introducing
| ||||||
| 11 | legislation to invest in local jobs by directing the State to | ||||||
| 12 | purchase American-made vehicles; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Representative Smiddy fought to help the counties | ||||||
| 14 | of the 71st Representative
District receive needed support for | ||||||
| 15 | economic revitalization projects by working to secure
millions | ||||||
| 16 | of dollars in infrastructure funding and resources for local | ||||||
| 17 | businesses and workers; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Representative Smiddy will continue his | ||||||
| 19 | commitment to his community through his
membership in the River | ||||||
| 20 | City Rotary Club in Port Byron; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 22 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||

| 1 | congratulate and honor State Representative Mike Smiddy for his | ||||||
| 2 | years of dedicated service as a member of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives and wish him success in all future endeavors; | ||||||
| 4 | and be it further

| 5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
