HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate United States Congressman 
4Bobby Rush on the occasion of his 70th birthday on November 23, 
52016; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Congressman Rush was born in Albany, Georgia on 
7November 23, 1946 and moved to Chicago at the age of 7; he 
8earned his Bachelor of General Studies from Roosevelt 
9University in 1973, his Master of Arts in Political Science 
10from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1974, and his 
11Master of Theology from McCormick Theological Seminary in 1978; 
12and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Congressman Rush was involved the civil rights 
14movement throughout the 1960s; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Congressman Rush took office as United States 
16Representative for Illinois's 1st Congressional District in 
171993, and has since won consecutive re-election; while in 
18office, he has focused on issues of importance to low and 
19middle-income families and communities; he has brought more 
20than one billion dollars to the 1st Congressional District; he 
21has led efforts to fund major infrastructure projects and 
22obtained millions of dollars in grants for libraries, museums,

1municipalities, police departments, hospitals, schools, and 
2programs that support the arts; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Congressman Rush and his wife, Carolyn, had  seven 
4children together; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Congressman Rush is an honorably discharged 
6veteran of the United States Army; he is an ordained minister 
7and is the pastor of the Beloved Community Christian Church of 
8God in Christ in Chicago; therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we  
11congratulate United States Congressman Bobby Rush on his 70th 
12birthday, and we wish him many more wonderful years; and be it 
13further
  
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15presented to Congressman Rush as a symbol of our respect and 
16esteem.
