HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to
congratulate Rev. Donald J. 
4Nevins on receiving the 2016 Most Dedicated Blood Drive 
5Coordinator
of the Year from the Illinois Coalition of

6Community Blood Centers; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Father Nevins started coordinating blood drives 
8at St. Francis of
Assisi Parish back in 2000; since 2008, he 
9has coordinated drives for St. Agnes of
Bohemia Parish, where 
10he serves as pastor; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Father Nevins understands that in order for people 
12to be encouraged to donate blood, they must appreciate its 
13importance, and he makes sure to dedicate time during Mass each 
14week to this message so that it can be delivered clearly to his 
15congregation; and
 
16    WHEREAS, St. Agnes has a large Latino membership, and the 
17work of Father Nevins in promoting blood donations to the 
18Latino community is invaluable; though Latinos make up 17% of 
19the United States population, they make up less than 3% of the 
20blood donor base; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Father Nevins has been responsible for over 40

1blood drives, each lasting over 12 hours; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, Due to  the efforts of Father Nevins, over 3000 
3units of blood have been
collected, enough to save 12,000 
4lives; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, The accomplishments of  Father Nevins will be felt 
6for years
to come due to the critical role he plays in 
7educating the youth in his parish,
who often become lifetime 
8donors because they started donating at a young
age; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, In 2016, Father Nevins was nominated by LifeSource 
10as the "Most
Dedicated Blood Drive Coordinator" in a statewide 
11competition hosted by the
Illinois Coalition of Community Blood 
12Centers; therefore, be it
  
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
15commend Rev. Donald J. Nevins for his commitment to
insuring a 
16healthy blood supply in his community; and be it further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to Rev. Nevins as
an expression of our esteem and 
19respect.
