HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of

3Representatives wish to congratulate John R. Alongi on the

4occasion of his 90th birthday on January 1, 2017; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, John Alongi is a caring husband, father,

6grandfather, brother, and uncle; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, John Alongi spent the early 1950s as a soldier in 
8the
Korean War; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Upon his return from the war, John Alongi began to 
10help operate his
father's Italian restaurant, Alongi's; 
11Alongi's celebrated its 83rd anniversary in 2016 and is now
the 
12oldest Italian restaurant in Southern Illinois; and
 
13    WHEREAS, John Alongi is a former President of the DuQuoin 
14Business
Association, which promotes small businesses in the

15community; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Alongi was the Congressional Economic 
17Director for
United States Representatives Kenneth Gray and 
18Glen Poshard; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Due to his business successes and outstanding work

1on Capitol Hill, John Alongi was invited by President Ronald 
2Regan to serve on the Conference on Small Business in 1986; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, John Alongi founded the Alongi Legacy Scholarship 
4at Southern Illinois University to help the students of
Perry 
5County succeed at  college; therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
8congratulate John R. Alongi on his 90th birthday on January 1, 
92017, and we wish him many more wonderful years; and be it 
10further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to John Alongi as an expression of our esteem and 
13respect.
