HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the service of Lamar Houston; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Houston has been a resident of Southern Illinois for 65 years and has been a constant resource for the residents of Alexander County; he donates his time, wisdom, and knowledge to help in any way he can; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Houston retired from the Southern Illinois Electric Co-Op in 2013 after 40 years of service as a Lineman and Utility Serviceman; he treated his customers in Alexander, Union, Johnson, Pulaski, and Massac counties as family; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Houston was a friend to all and never met a stranger; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Houston has been a member of the Shawnee College Foundation Board, the Alexander County Board, the MAP Board, the Southern Five Board, and the Village of Tamms Board; he was the interim Mayor of Tamms and assisted residents during the 2011 flood in Olive Branch; he has been a member of the Egyptian School Board for many years, serving as President for the last eight; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Houston coached softball and refereed basketball; he spent countless hours teaching and guiding the youth in this area; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Houston mows the lawn of elderly residents each year without pay; he spends time with young people in and outside the school encouraging them to be and to do their best; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Houston and his wife, Connie (Nelson) have been married for 38 years; they have three children, Derek, Kimberlee, and Leslie, and four grandchildren, Kourtney, Ava, Carter, and Kamryn; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the service of Lamar Houston, and we wish him many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Lamar Houston as an expression of our esteem and respect.
