HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Valerie Salmons on the 
4occasion of her retirement after 35 years of service with the 
5Village of Bartlett on January 31, 2017; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Valerie Salmons joined Bartlett as the Village 
7Administrator in 1982; during her tenure, she saw the 
8population of Bartlett grow from 13,254 to over 42,000; its 
9size grew from eight square miles to nearly 16; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Valerie Salmons carefully managed the growth of 
11Bartlett by balancing residential, commercial, and industrial 
12development; she provided a high level of service for the 
13residents within fiscally sound, balanced budgets; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, In 1990, Valerie Salmons was the first woman 
15appointed to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and 
16Standards Board; she was reappointed by six subsequent Illinois 
17governors and was the first woman elected to the board to serve 
18as Chairman; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Valerie Salmons had a high level of expectations 
20for the various departments serving Bartlett; in 1997, the 
21Bartlett Police Department was awarded its first Commission on

1Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and has been 
2re-accredited six times; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Valerie Salmons has spent 42 years in public 
4service and is the longest-serving village administrator in the 
5State of Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
8congratulate Valerie Salmons on her retirement after 35 years 
9of service with the Village of Bartlett, and we wish her the 
10best in all her future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to Valerie Salmons as an expression of our esteem and 
13respect.
