| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to
learn of the death of former | ||||||
| 4 | State Representative Sam Wolf, who passed away
on November 4, | ||||||
| 5 | 2016; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Representative Wolf was born in Venice to Earl and
| ||||||
| 7 | Elizabeth Wolf on January 4, 1919; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Representative Wolf served with distinction in | ||||||
| 9 | the United States
Army during World War II in both the Pacific | ||||||
| 10 | and European theaters; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Representative Wolf married the love of his life, | ||||||
| 12 | Mae Frank, on
November 9, 1946, and enjoyed many happy years | ||||||
| 13 | together until her death in
2013; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Representative Wolf served as Illinois State | ||||||
| 15 | Representative from
October of 1975 to January of 1993, where | ||||||
| 16 | he was fondly known as the "Pension Czar"
while leading the | ||||||
| 17 | Personnel and Pensions Committee; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Representative Wolf was particularly proud of | ||||||
| 19 | Southwestern Illinois
College; he was instrumental in having | ||||||
| 20 | its name changed from Belleville Area
College in order to | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | better represent its service to the southwest region of the | ||||||
| 2 | State; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, After leaving the House of Representatives, | ||||||
| 4 | Representative Wolf was
elected as a trustee of Southwestern | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois College in 1995, where he served
until his retirement | ||||||
| 6 | in 2012; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Representative Wolf was essential in passing the | ||||||
| 8 | legislation that
established community college sub-districts | ||||||
| 9 | to allow equitable representation
at the community college; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Representative Wolf was honored by Southwestern | ||||||
| 11 | Illinois College when it named its
Granite City campus the Sam | ||||||
| 12 | Wolf Granite City Campus; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Representative Wolf was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 14 | wife, Mae, and his son,
Larry; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Representative Wolf is survived by his son, Dave; | ||||||
| 16 | five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;
and innumerable | ||||||
| 17 | friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 19 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 20 | we, along with his family and
friends, mourn the passing of | ||||||

| 1 | former State Representative Sam Wolf; and be it further
| ||||||
| 2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 3 | presented to the family
of Representative Wolf as an expression | ||||||
| 4 | of our respect and deepest sympathy.
