| 3 | | replacing lines 12 through 19 with the following:

| 4 | | "(j-5) In counties with 3,000,000 or more inhabitants, in |
| 5 | | the event of a sale or transfer of homestead property, the new |
| 6 | | owner of the property, if qualified, shall apply for an |
| 7 | | exemption under this Section. Upon receipt of the application, |
| 8 | | the chief county assessment officer shall remove any previously |
| 9 | | granted homestead exemptions for which the property is no |
| 10 | | longer eligible.".
