| 1 | | AN ACT concerning regulation.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Practice Act |
| 5 | | of 2004 is amended by adding Section 19.2 as follows:

| 6 | | (225 ILCS 115/19.2 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 19.2. Patient requests for prescriptions. |
| 8 | | Veterinarians shall honor a client's request for a prescription |
| 9 | | in lieu of dispensing a drug when a veterinarian-client-patient |
| 10 | | relationship exists and the veterinarian has determined that |
| 11 | | the drug is medically necessary.

| 12 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 13 | | becoming law.
