Amends the Illinois Optometric Practice Act of 1987. Allows optometrists to employ or engage the services of any optical laboratory, without restriction, to construct, fabricate, manufacture, or repair optical lenses, ophthalmic lenses, other vision corrective lenses, including, but not limited to, progressive lenses and bifocals and trifocals, and prisms. Allows the optical laboratory employed by an optometrist to subcontract with another optical laboratory for all or a portion of the services, with the optometrist's knowledge. Effective January 1, 2017.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Optometric Practice Act of 1987 is |
5 | | amended by adding Section 24.4 as follows: |
6 | | (225 ILCS 80/24.4 new) |
7 | | Sec. 24.4. Optical laboratories. Optometrists shall have |
8 | | the right to employ or engage the services of any optical |
9 | | laboratory, without restriction, to construct, fabricate, |
10 | | manufacture, or repair optical lenses, ophthalmic lenses, |
11 | | other vision corrective lenses, including, but not limited to, |
12 | | progressive lenses and bifocals and trifocals, and prisms. An |
13 | | optical laboratory so employed may, with the knowledge of the |
14 | | optometrist, subcontract with another optical laboratory for |
15 | | all or a portion of such fabrication, manufacture, |
16 | | construction, or repair.

17 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January |
18 | | 1, 2017.
