Amends various Acts relating to the governance of public universities in Illinois. Requires the governing board of each public university to develop and maintain a written policy concerning the credits that the university will award for courses on a joint services transcript. Defines "joint services transcript". Effective January 1, 2017.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The University of Illinois Act is amended by adding Section 90 as follows:

(110 ILCS 305/90 new)

Sec. 90. Joint services transcript.

(a) As used in this Section, "joint services transcript" means a transcript issued by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces that provides information on, among other things, military courses taken through the Armed Forces.

(b) The Board of Trustees shall develop and maintain a written policy concerning the credits that the University will award for courses on a joint services transcript.

Section 10. The Southern Illinois University Management Act is amended by adding Section 75 as follows:

Sec. 75. Joint services transcript.

(a) As used in this Section, "joint services transcript" means a transcript issued by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces that provides information on, among other things, military courses taken through the Armed Forces.

(b) The Board shall develop and maintain a written policy concerning the credits that the University will award for courses on a joint services transcript.

Section 15. The Chicago State University Law is amended by adding Section 5-185 as follows:

Sec. 5-185. Joint services transcript.

(a) As used in this Section, "joint services transcript" means a transcript issued by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces that provides information on, among other things, military courses taken through the Armed Forces.

(b) The Board shall develop and maintain a written policy concerning the credits that the University will award for courses on a joint services transcript.

Section 20. The Eastern Illinois University Law is amended by adding Section 10-185 as follows:

(a) As used in this Section, "joint services transcript" means a transcript issued by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces that provides information on, among other things, military courses taken through the Armed Forces.

Section 25. The Governors State University Law is amended by adding Section 15-185 as follows:

Section 45. The Western Illinois University Law is amended by adding Section 35-190 as follows:

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January 1, 2017.
