2 | | WHEREAS, Illinoisans are increasingly using new |
3 | | technology, including smart phones, in their daily lives for |
4 | | such core, day-to-day functions like working, banking, and |
5 | | shopping; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Increasing convenience is one way to improve the |
7 | | quality of life for our residents and citizens; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, There is both a financial and an environmental |
9 | | cost for producing plastic driver's licenses; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, There is an emergent technology that allows for |
11 | | secure digital driver's licenses; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, The States of Iowa and Delaware are planning to |
13 | | experiment with digital licenses in 2015; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, The digital driver's license would be optional and |
15 | | not required; therefore, be it
|
16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES |
18 | | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge the Secretary of State to study |
19 | | and consider the issuance of optional digital driver's licenses |
