| 2 | | WHEREAS, Cholesterol is essential to the human body's |
| 3 | | functioning; however, high LDL-C (bad cholesterol) can lead to |
| 4 | | heart disease; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, There are no warning signs of high cholesterol, |
| 6 | | and the only way to find out one's total blood cholesterol is |
| 7 | | through a lipoprotein profile blood test; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Hyperlipidemia occurs when there are too many |
| 9 | | lipids in the blood, therefore causing high cholesterol and |
| 10 | | high triglycerides; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The American Heart Association recommends |
| 12 | | consulting a doctor to understand one's condition and then |
| 13 | | determining a treatment that may include healthy diet choices |
| 14 | | and exercise along with medication, depending on one's overall |
| 15 | | risk; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Cholesterol Counts is an awareness program that |
| 17 | | aims to have individuals take an active role in understanding |
| 18 | | that there is more to be done to control high cholesterol and |
| 19 | | encourages the conversation between patients and their |
| 20 | | healthcare providers; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Encouraging Illinois residents to participate in |
| 2 | | Cholesterol Counts can help monitor the overall cholesterol |
| 3 | | statistics for Illinois and provide awareness for treatment; |
| 4 | | and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois Department of Public Health already |
| 6 | | encourages residents to get their blood cholesterol checked |
| 7 | | during September, which is designated as National Cholesterol |
| 8 | | Education Month; therefore, be it
|
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
| 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES |
| 11 | | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we recognize the importance of |
| 12 | | encouraging Illinois residents to understand their cholesterol |
| 13 | | testing results and coordinate treatment with their healthcare |
| 14 | | provider; and be it further
|
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That we urge the Illinois Department of Public |
| 16 | | Health to post a link providing access to |
| 17 | | www.cholesterolcounts.com on its website under the Resources |
| 18 | | section on its Cholesterol page; and be it further
|
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That we urge the Illinois Department of Public |
| 20 | | Health to designate September 1, 2016 as Hyperlipidemia |
| 21 | | Awareness Day in the State of Illinois; and be it further
