2 | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Kenneth Corzine passed away on | ||||||
3 | December 24, 2010 as the result of wounds
received in battle; | ||||||
4 | and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Corzine was born on May 4, 1987 and was a | ||||||
6 | lifelong Madison County resident; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Corzine graduated from Civic Memorial High | ||||||
8 | School in Bethalto and enlisted in the United States Marine | ||||||
9 | Corps on August 1, 2007; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Corzine completed infantry training on | ||||||
11 | March 5, 2008 and proudly served with
distinction in the 3rd | ||||||
12 | Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment known as DARKHORSE; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Corzine completed Winter Mountain Warfare | ||||||
14 | Training and
Enhanced Mojave Viper Training before deploying as | ||||||
15 | a rifleman with the 1st Squad, 3rd Platoon, Company L to | ||||||
16 | Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Corzine's personal awards include a Purple | ||||||
18 | Heart and Combat Action Ribbon; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, The 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines suffered 25 K.I.A. |

1 | with more than 250 wounded during a
historic seven month | ||||||
2 | deployment; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Corzine did not hesitate to do his duty even | ||||||
4 | as
his comrades were falling around him; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, LCpl. Corzine was severely injured during battle | ||||||
6 | on December 5, 2010 and later succumbed to the wounds he | ||||||
7 | received; therefore, be it
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
9 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES | ||||||
10 | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of Illinois | ||||||
11 | Route 140 from North Bellwood Drive to Prairie Street
in | ||||||
12 | Bethalto as the "LCpl. Kenneth Corzine Memorial Drive"; and be | ||||||
13 | it further | ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
15 | is requested to erect at suitable
locations, consistent with | ||||||
16 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
17 | giving
notice of the name "LCpl. Kenneth Corzine Memorial | ||||||
18 | Drive"; and be it further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of the resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of LCpl. Corzine and
Bethalto Mayor | ||||||
21 | Alan Winslow.
