| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Lawrence E. Morrissey of Joliet, who |
| 4 | | passed away on January 8, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Morrissey was born in Joliet on July 19, |
| 6 | | 1936 to Margaret and Charles; he graduated from Cathedral of |
| 7 | | St. Raymond School, Joliet Catholic High School, the University |
| 8 | | of Illinois, and The John Marshall Law School; he served in the |
| 9 | | United States Marine Corps; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Morrissey began his legal career in 1964 |
| 11 | | as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District |
| 12 | | of Illinois and, in 1967, was appointed Chief of the Organized |
| 13 | | Crime and Racketeering section for the Northern District of |
| 14 | | Illinois; in 1969, he received a meritorious service award from |
| 15 | | United States Attorney General, Ramsey Clark, who credited him |
| 16 | | with helping disband the Chicago crime syndicate; in 1974, he |
| 17 | | opened his own practice in downtown Chicago while at the same |
| 18 | | time working at O`Brien, Garrison, Berard & Kusta, a Joliet law |
| 19 | | firm that he credited for the development of his civil |
| 20 | | litigation skills; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Lawrence Morrissey represented defendants in |
| 22 | | numerous high profile government probes and scandals, but his |
