SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lawrence E. Morrissey of Joliet, who
4passed away on January 8, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lawrence Morrissey was born in Joliet on July 19,
61936 to Margaret and Charles; he graduated from Cathedral of
7St. Raymond School, Joliet Catholic High School, the University
8of Illinois, and The John Marshall Law School; he served in the
9United States Marine Corps; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lawrence Morrissey began his legal career in 1964
11as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District
12of Illinois and, in 1967, was appointed Chief of the Organized
13Crime and Racketeering section for the Northern District of
14Illinois; in 1969, he received a meritorious service award from
15United States Attorney General, Ramsey Clark, who credited him
16with helping disband the Chicago crime syndicate; in 1974, he
17opened his own practice in downtown Chicago while at the same
18time working at O`Brien, Garrison, Berard & Kusta, a Joliet law
19firm that he credited for the development of his civil
20litigation skills; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Lawrence Morrissey represented defendants in
22numerous high profile government probes and scandals, but his

1real passion was providing representation to the less
2fortunate, often on a pro bono basis; he took great pleasure in
3helping people from all walks of life; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Lawrence Morrissey was preceded in death by his
5parents and his nephew, Mark Ahmann; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lawrence Morrissey is survived by his wife of 48
7years, Kathleen (nee Landreman); his children, Dr. Lawrence
8(Tamara), Charles (Susan), and William (Aleksandra); his 12
9grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, Colin, Charlie, Madeleine,
10Allie, Teresa, Elliott, Klara, Joshua, Benjamin, and Brigita;
11his sister, Rosemary (David) Ahmann; and many very special
12nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Lawrence E. Morrissey, and extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Lawrence Morrissey as an expression
20of our deepest sympathy.
