SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Pastor Arthur J. Guyton, Sr. of Peoria,
4who passed away on January 12, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. was born on April 8, 1936 in
6Blytheville, Arkansas; his parents were Marshell and Fannie
7(nee Clark) Guyton; he attended school in Blytheville,
8Arkansas; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. graduated from the Walther
10Theological Seminary and attended branch extension classes in
11Monroe, Louisiana, where he earned several degrees; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. retired from Caterpillar Inc.
13in Morton after 34 years of dedicated service; he also served
14in the jail ministry for 40 years and was the founder of
15Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, serving as pastor there for
1616 years until his health failed; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. held many positions with the
18Baptist Ministerial Alliance; he was a member of the Baptist
19Ministerial Alliance board and many other boards; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. loved helping people, family

1gatherings, and cooking; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. was preceded in death by his
3parents; 3 brothers; and 4 sisters; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. is survived by his wife of 58
5years, Lena (nee Ferguson) Guyton; 3 sons, Arthur (Georgetta)
6Guyton, Jr., Carey L. Guyton, and Stephen D. (Denise) Guyton; 3
7daughters, Margaret J. Guyton, Marnette Riley, and Lori T.
8(Pastor Harold, Jr.) Dawson; 4 brothers, Johnny (Lois) Guyton,
9Willie (Willie B.) Guyton, Dave (Emma) Guyton, and Thurmond
10Guyton; 5 sisters, Verlean Johnson, Bobbie Posey, Pauline
11Dodson, Mary Logan, and Thedosia Guyton; 21 grandchildren; 29
12great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; 5 godchildren;
13and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends; therefore,
14be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
17family and friends, mourn the passing of Pastor Arthur J.
18Guyton, Sr.; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Arthur Guyton, Sr. as an expression
21of our sympathy.
