SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Mike Spellman, who passed away on January 
420, 2015; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Spellman attended St. Viator High School in 
6Arlington Heights, where he played football and baseball, 
7earning a Most Valuable Player award as a standout catcher; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Mike Spellman wrote for the Daily Herald for 23 
9years; his column, "Spellman's Scorecard", and his expertise on 
10a variety of sports topics made him a reader favorite; he began 
11as a freelance writer of youth sports in 1990 and joined the 
12Daily Herald full-time in 1991; he worked his way up from 
13covering Little League games to covering the PGA majors; most 
14recently, he worked the Chicago Blackhawks beat; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Mike Spellman enjoyed playing golf and still 
16played with his friends from high school; and
  
 
  
17    WHEREAS, Mike Spellman is survived by his mother; his 2 
18older sisters; his older brother; and his younger sister; 
19therefore, be it
  
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
2Mike Spellman, and extend our sincere condolences to his 
3family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
6presented to the family of Mike Spellman as an expression of 
7our deepest sympathy.
