SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Merle S. Miller, who passed away on December 13, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Merle Miller was born on January 18, 1932 in Clinton; his parents were Carl S. and Esther (nee Turner) Miller; he married Helen Wagner on December 12, 1959 in Clinton; and

WHEREAS, Merle Miller served his country as an officer in the United States Navy in San Diego after graduating from the University of Illinois in 1955; and

WHEREAS, Merle Miller farmed and raised purebred registered Angus cattle for 55 years; and

WHEREAS, Merle Miller was a member of the First Christian Church, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Clinton Country Club, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the DeWitt Masonic Lodge, the Bloomington Consistory, the Ansar Shriners in Springfield, the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Board, the American Angus Association, the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity; he was a Clintonia Township Trustee, a past President of the DeWitt County Elevator, a past President of the DeWitt County Farm Bureau, and Director of the Division of County Fairs and Horse Racing for the State of Illinois from 1984 to 1991; and

WHEREAS, Merle Miller was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Merle Miller is survived by his wife, Helen Miller; 3 sons, Brett (Jill) Miller, Bart (Margery) Miller, and Brad (Janeen) Miller; 4 grandchildren, Brianna, Ryan, Ashley, and Grace; and a sister, Margorie Anderson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Merle S. Miller; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Merle Miller as an expression of our sympathy.
