SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Richard Terrance "Terry" Donnelly of 
4Peoria, who passed away on January 21, 2015; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Donnelly was born in Peoria on September 
616, 1946  to Harold F. and Roberta C. (nee Loveridge) Donnelly; 
7he was a graduate of St. Bernard Catholic Grade School and a 
81964 graduate of the Spalding Institute; he attended St. 
9Ambrose University until he joined the United States Air Force; 
10he served in Vietnam (Cam Ranh Bay) attaining the rank of 
11Sergeant in the Air Force Police K-9 Unit; he married Molly 
12Ryan on February 25, 1967 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in 
13Peoria; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Richard Donnelly returned home following his 
15service, where he began his career as an avid restauranteur 
16with the original Donnelly's Shamrock Pub in 1970, Peoria's 
17oldest Irish pub; he went on to open 5 other restaurant 
18locations: Terry's Old Time Inn, Donnelly's Apollo, Donnelly's 
19Campustown, Donnelly's in Pekin, and Donnelly's Irish Pub on 
20Rockwood, the newest location; he also hosted Peoria's 
21legendary St. Patty's Day Bash at Expo Gardens for over 10 
22years; and

1    WHEREAS, Richard Donnelly loved all things Irish, but his 
2greatest joy was bragging about his 17 grandchildren; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Richard Donnelly was preceded in death by his 
4parents; his sister, Patty (Donnelly) Hibbs; one nephew from 
5his family; and 2 nephews from Molly's family; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Richard Donnelly is survived by his wife, Molly; 
7his 2 daughters, Chris (Matt) Waugh and Katy (Shane) Matarelli; 
8his 3 sons, Patrick (Heather) Donnelly, Ryan (Jessie) Donnelly, 
9and Rich Donnelly; his 17 grandchildren, Emily, Maggie, and 
10Patrick Mercer, Charlie and Mary Kate Waugh, Hillary, Jack, and 
11Mary Jane Donnelly, Jack and Maddie Stephens, Finnegan, Nora, 
12and Ryan Donnelly, Sam, Will, and Max Matarelli, and Liam 
13Donnelly; his brother, Mike (Pam) Donnelly; and his 2 sisters, 
14Denise (Hugo) Schaub and Pam (Dan) Dillon; therefore, be it
  
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
17Richard Terrance "Terry" Donnelly, and extend our sincere 
18condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved 
19him; and be it further
  
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
21presented to the family of Richard Donnelly as an expression of 
22our deepest sympathy.
