2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Eddie Jewell Price, Jr. of Springfield, |
4 | | who passed away on December 26, 2014; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Eddie Price, Jr. was born in Kankakee on May 11, |
6 | | 1951 to Eddie J., Sr. and Edwinah (nee Cole) Price; he attended |
7 | | Bishop McNamara High School, Olympia State University in |
8 | | Olympia, Washington, and Governor State University; he served |
9 | | in the United States Navy from May of 1969 to January of 1971; |
10 | | he married Mary Price in 1974; he later married Connie Day and |
11 | | then Renatta Rhodes; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Eddie Price, Jr. retired from the State of |
13 | | Illinois after 34 years with the Department of Children and |
14 | | Family Services, the Department of Mental Health and |
15 | | Developmental Disabilities, and the Office of Inspector |
16 | | General; he was elected 7th Ward Alderman in Kankakee from 1979 |
17 | | to 1983; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, After moving to Springfield, Eddie Price, Jr. was |
19 | | a member of Grace United Methodist Church and then Pleasant |
20 | | Grove Baptist Church; he was also affiliated with Capitol City |
21 | | C.O.G.I.C., Union Baptist Church, and Kumler United Methodist |
22 | | Church; he volunteered for numerous ministries and |

1 | | organizations, including Foreign Mission (Germany and |
2 | | Liberia), "Hands Across the Sea", the National Baptist |
3 | | Association of Germany Congress of Christian Education, the |
4 | | Graham Correctional Prison Ministry, Memorial Medical Center |
5 | | Red Coats, Springfield District #186, Bereaved Parents of |
6 | | USA-Springfield Chapter, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the |
7 | | NAACP, the Illinois Association of Minorities in Government |
8 | | (past Chairman), and the YMCA (board member and President); he |
9 | | also coached the Kankakee East Side Bulldogs and was an |
10 | | organizer with the "Million Man March" in Washington, D.C.; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Eddie Price, Jr. was preceded in death by his |
12 | | father, Eddie J. Price, Sr.; his daughter, Joi Verniece Price; |
13 | | his grandparents, Rev. Russell and Annie B. Price, Florine |
14 | | Dunbar, and Ulyssess Grant Cole; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Eddie Price, Jr. is survived by his mother, |
16 | | Edwinah Price; his 4 sons, Daniel (Shonda) Roach, Malcolm |
17 | | (Kizzy), Kwame (Carmella) Price, and Timothy Smith; his 2 |
18 | | daughters, Aisha Price and Tempe Williams; his sister, Yvette |
19 | | (Michael) Maeweather; his brother, Garland Price; his 21 |
20 | | grandchildren; his great-grandchild; his first wife and |
21 | | friend, Mary Price; his special friend, Alicia Joseph; his |
22 | | special daughter, Alicia Ray; and many nieces, nephews, |
23 | | cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | Eddie Jewell Price, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to |
4 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
5 | | further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Eddie Price, Jr. as an expression of |
8 | | our deepest sympathy.
