SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Roy Isaiah Williams, Sr. of Springfield,
4who passed away on February 3, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. was born in Chicago on October
631, 1941 to Gaynell (nee Graham) and Roy A. Williams; he
7graduated from Lanphier High School, where he lettered in
8basketball and football; he married Linda Douglas on June 4,
91988 at Monroe Street Christian Church; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. worked for the State of Illinois
11for 35 years, retiring in 2002 from the Prisoner Review Board;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. was a member of Union Baptist
14Church; he was a member of the C. Lee Carey Neighborhood
15Association and the Faith Coalition for the Common Good and was
16a former member of One In A Million and Eastside Pride; he was
17very active politically and worked to bring change to the
18Eastside Brick House Unit; he enjoyed music, sports, dancing,
19and spending time with his family; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. was preceded in death by his
21parents; his step-father, Preston McCrary; his daughter,

1Rochelle Denise Williams; and his grandson, Lamar D. Crawford;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. is survived by his wife of 26
4years, Linda Douglas Williams; his 3 sons, Roy I. Williams,
5Jr., Michael (Doris) Williams, and Rodney (Charlotte) Gool; his
64 daughters, Tina (Tony) Crawford, Debra Williams, Donna Sloan,
7and Shaundra Porter; his 3 brothers, Allen E. (Carolyn)
8Williams, Lawrence (Carolyn) Fortenberry, and Preston L.
9(Toni) McCrary; his 4 sisters, Jackquelee E. (Robert) Sigars,
10Sandra L. (Donald) Williams-Mosley, Chryl A. (Lee I.)
11McCrary-Temple, and Carla McCrary; his 3 sisters-in-law,
12Patricia Patterson, Betty Williams, and Kelly Douglas; his 2
13brothers-in-law, Ronald and Rickey Douglas; his aunt, Betty
14Jean Graham; his 21 grandchildren; his 33 great-grandchildren;
15and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends; therefore,
16be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Roy Isaiah Williams, Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to
20his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23presented to the family of Roy Williams, Sr. as an expression
