| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Dorothy L. Mavrich of Joliet, who passed |
| 4 | | away on February 10, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Mavrich was born in Rockdale to Luba and |
| 6 | | Louis; she moved to Joliet in 1955; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Mavrich was a music instructor at the |
| 8 | | Joliet Conservatory of Music until a major fire in 1974; she |
| 9 | | continued teaching at her residence and enjoyed teaching all |
| 10 | | age levels; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, At the age of 50, Dorothy Mavrich became |
| 12 | | interested in politics but never sought office; her interest in |
| 13 | | public housing, inequitable taxation, and preservation of the |
| 14 | | then Rubens Rialto Square Theatre led to the formation of the |
| 15 | | Will County Cultural Arts Association in 1975; a name change to |
| 16 | | the Rialto Square Arts Association was instrumental in bringing |
| 17 | | the theatre under public ownership in 1978; she received many |
| 18 | | awards but her most cherished award was the honorary degree of |
| 19 | | Doctor of Humanities from the Lewis University; she authored 2 |
| 20 | | books: "Why Not? A Journey Through Music Land!" and "Thinking"; |
