SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Duane J. Broomfield of Rockford, who
4passed away on February 24, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Duane Broomfield was born in Boise City, Oklahoma
6on September 18, 1934 to Thurlow and Violet (nee Kittle)
7Broomfield; he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and
8a 1952 graduate of West High School; he served in the United
9States Marine Corps and married Shirley Picchione on November
1015, 1958 at St. Anthony Church; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Duane Broomfield worked as a carpenter and owned
12Winnebago Counter Tops; he was an excellent woodworker and
13always helped family and friends with their home remodeling;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Duane Broomfield coached baseball at Kenrock
16Community Center and the Rockford Red Wings fast pitch softball
17team; he volunteered at Head Start and was a regular blood
18donor; he enjoyed vacations, going out to eat with family and
19friends, golfing, bowling, and playing cards; he was an avid
20Green Bay Packers fan; he loved taking walks with his wife
21around the lakes in Geneva while eating a butter pecan ice
22cream cone; he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play soccer,

1baseball, and football; he attended mass daily with his wife at
2Presence Saint Anne; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Duane Broomfield was preceded in death by his
4parents; his brothers, Buford and Ted, Jr.; his in-laws, Peter
5and Tiny Picchione; and his sister-in-law, Linda; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Duane Broomfield is survived by his wife of 56
7years, Shirley; he was the proud father of Mark, Matt (Lynn),
8and Paul; the proud grandfather of Steven (Jamie), Richard,
9Alyssa, and Adam; the proud great-grandfather of Cade; the
10brother of Vic; and the brother-in-law of David (Zan)
11Picchione; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Duane J. Broomfield, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Duane Broomfield as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
