SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Margaret Anne Kenny McNally, who passed
4away on March 11, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Margaret McNally was born on August 23, 1929 in
6West Bend, Wisconsin; her parents were Delbert James and Olive
7Anna (nee Kauffung) Kenny; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Margaret McNally attended Mount Mary College in
9Milwaukee and in 1952 and graduated from St. Louis University;
10as a college senior, she overlapped for one year at St. Louis
11University with her future husband, Dr. Randall E. McNally, a
12legendary Chicago surgeon, former United States Air Force
13doctor, and longtime cut man for the Chicago Blackhawks; they
14were married on June 20, 1953 at Holy Angels Church in West
15Bend, Wisconsin; together, they raised 10 children who have
16gone on to many illustrious careers, including a veteran of 3
17White House administrations, an Executive Producer for Oprah
18Winfrey, a military hero and aircraft carrier pilot in the
19United States Navy and Marine Corps, a television, film, and
20Broadway actress, and a University of Chicago spinal surgeon;
21and
 
22    WHEREAS, Margaret McNally managed the medical practice of

1her husband for many years; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Margaret McNally was an active participant in many
3charitable causes in Chicago; she served 2 tours of duty as
4Chair of the Rush Faculty Wives and served in a leadership
5capacity with the National Association for the Prevention of
6Child Abuse; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Margaret McNally enjoyed cooking, shopping,
8summer lakes, tennis, cycling, and skiing; she was also a
9renowned entertainer who found improbable ways to stage events
10with grace, nerve, and flair; she was widely considered a
11founder and instigator of the round-the-world "birthday party
12for Planet Earth" on New Year's Eve 1999, which featured
13celebrations in each of the globe's 24 time zones at sites
14including Stonehenge, Red Square and the Taj Mahal and an epic
15celebration at the Great Pyramid of Cheops; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Margaret McNally was preceded in death by 2
17children, Anne Mary McNally and Lt. Cmdr. Randall E. McNally II
18(USN) and 2 grandchildren, Sean Morrissey and Emmett Morrissey;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Margaret McNally is survived by her husband of 61
21years, Dr. Randall McNally; 8 children, Maureen Morrissey,
22Patrick McNally, Tara Montgomery, Edward McNally, Sheila

1McNally, Ryan McNally, Tom McNally, and McNally Sagal; 30
2grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet Kenny
3Koehn; and a brother, Col. Patrick D.J. Kenny (ret.);
4therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
7family and friends, mourn the passing of Margaret Anne Kenny
8McNally; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Margaret McNally as an expression of
11our sympathy.
