| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Josephine Lucas of Marengo, who passed |
| 4 | | away on December 20, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Josephine Lucas was born in Chicago on September |
| 6 | | 20, 1929 to John and Rose Chidichimo; she married Donald Lucas |
| 7 | | in Lockhaven, Pennsylvania on July 17, 1970; she was married |
| 8 | | previously to Donald Jay Wilson; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Josephine Lucas held a Master of Social Work from |
| 10 | | the University of Illinois and worked until her retirement from |
| 11 | | Illinois Elementary School District 59 in Elk Grove Village as |
| 12 | | a school social worker and a department administrator; she |
| 13 | | began her career shortly after finishing high school, working |
| 14 | | as an activities director at Jane Addams' Hull House in |
| 15 | | Chicago; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Josephine Lucas sung in several operas; she was an |
| 17 | | avid musician and enjoyed singing and playing the piano and |
| 18 | | string bass; during the 1960s, she was a member of a strolling |
| 19 | | combo, "The Honeycombs", and was a past member of the Chicago |
| 20 | | Federation of Musicians; years later, she toured Europe several |
| 21 | | times with a choir from District 59; she also loved animals and |
| 22 | | belonged to a number of animal welfare organizations and |
