| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Roscoe Garrett of Lake Forest, who passed |
| 4 | | away on March 13, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Roscoe Garrett was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on |
| 6 | | July 9, 1923 to Logan T. and Rose (nee Bosch) Garrett; he spent |
| 7 | | his childhood in West Allis and Milwaukee, with an interlude of |
| 8 | | 2 years in Portland, Oregon; he graduated from West Allis |
| 9 | | Central High School in 1939 and married Jeanne Lucas on |
| 10 | | September 7, 1943; he served his country in the United States |
| 11 | | Army during World War II, fighting under General Patton during |
| 12 | | the Battle of the Bulge; he was awarded a Bronze Star for |
| 13 | | heroism in battle and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant while in |
| 14 | | Europe; he was able to begin his college studies while in the |
| 15 | | Army, attending the University of Maine and completed a |
| 16 | | Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at the |
| 17 | | University of Wisconsin, graduating cum laude in 1948; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Roscoe Garrett began work as an engineering |
| 19 | | draftsman at the Allen Bradley Corporation and enjoyed a |
| 20 | | successful career in engineering and business for the next 41 |
| 21 | | years; he was the President and Chief Operating Officer of the |
| 22 | | Riley Corporation, a publicly listed company, for several |
| 23 | | years, and subsequently was the general manager of the same |
