SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Sheldon Sternberg of Chicago, who passed
4away on April 9, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg was born in Chicago on February
627, 1923; while attending DePaul University in 1942, he
7enlisted in the United States Air Force and was assigned to the
8390th Bombardment Squadron; he was sent to Europe, where he
9served as navigator for bombing missions over Germany and
10France; he also participated in Operation Chowhound, a series
11of humanitarian missions that included food drops over the
12Netherlands; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg returned to Chicago after his
14military service and joined his wife's family's business,
15Best's Kosher Sausage Company, which later produced hot dogs
16served at Wrigley Field and other landmark Chicago venues; he
17was President of the company in 1993 when it was sold to Sara
18Lee; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg was an avid Chicago Cubs fan;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg and his wife, Elaine, had 4

1children, Susan Berger, Michael Sternberg, Nancy Kushner, and
2David Sternberg; 12 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren;
3therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Sheldon Sternberg, and extend our sincere condolences to his
7family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Sheldon Sternberg as an expression
11of our deepest sympathy.
