SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Rev. Roger H. Olson of Woodstock, who
4passed away on December 6, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rev. Olson was born in Altona on November 5, 1928
6to Harry and Ruth (nee Nelson) Olson; he served in the United
7States Air Force from 1954 to 1956, spending 20 months
8stationed in Nagoya, Japan; he married Diane Hidebrands on
9February 23, 1963; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rev. Olson received a bachelor's degree in animal
11husbandry from Iowa State in 1954 and went on to a career in
12farming in the Altona area and in McHenry County; he received a
13Master of Divinity from Augustana College and went on to serve
14in many churches; he served as pastor at Redeemer Lutheran
15Church, Centralia, from 1966 until 1971; as pastor at Nativity
16Lutheran Church, Wonder Lake, 1971-1994; as interim pastor at
17Trinity Lutheran Church, Harvard, 1994-1995; as interim pastor
18at Salem Lutheran Church, Sycamore, 1995; as associate pastor
19and interim pastor at Light of Christ, Algonquin, 1995-2000;
20and as interim pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock,
212001-2002; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Rev. Olson was preceded in death by his wife,

1Diane; his brother, Sam Olson; his sister, Ruby Kimmelshue; and
2his parents; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Rev. Olson is survived by his 4 daughters, Terese
4D. (Peter) Paulson, Ruby D. (Bob) Gross, Dr. Maria D. (Jason)
5Mallory, and Janel R. (Joe) Bottalla; his 3 grandchildren,
6Hannah and Phillip Paulson and Joseph R. Bottalla; and his 2
7brothers, Max Olson and Harley Olson; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Rev. Roger H. Olson, and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Rev. Olson as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
